ABOUT PRACTICALPIVOT
Hi, I'm Zo.
PracticalPivot is where I write the guide I wish I'd had: what you're owed when a flight goes wrong, what to sort before a trip, and what's worth buying (and what isn't). You'll also find my content as whatdoesZOknow.
How these guides are made
- Official sources first. Rules come from the regulator or the company itself (US DOT, the EU and UK regulations, airline and carrier pages, city and transit agencies), and each guide lists its sources with the date I checked them.
- Prepared with AI assistance. I use AI tools to research, draft and check these pages, then review the facts against the sources listed. Every guide says this in its disclosure.
- I say when I haven't tested something. Unless a guide says I personally used a product or service, I haven't. Comparisons are based on the providers' published plans and terms, not on hands-on testing.
- Dates on every guide. Each guide shows when it was last updated. Rules and prices change, so check the official source before you act.
How the site makes money
Some links are affiliate links (for example Amazon, GetYourGuide, Airalo, AirHelp and NordVPN). If you buy through one, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Every guide with affiliate links says so at the top, and where a free option exists (asking the airline yourself, the coverage already in your phone plan) the guide says that too. Keeping guides current
I re-check guides against their sources and change the "Updated" date only when the content actually changes. If a rule you read here differs from the official source, the official source wins.
